Founded in 1978 by a team of parents starting with a few morning sessions, committee run by parents.

In 1978 there were 24 children on the register, with 6 parents as staff, providing a pleasing area within the newly built St. Gabriel's Catholic Church Hall, with spacious, cheerful accommodation, a large safe outside play area and a large car park. They had an inside climbing frame, water tray, painting, playdough, reading books, music and a role play area. We have always had great use of the large outdoor garden.

Our first Chairperson (our founder) was Tessa Richards, and she helped the playgroup get well established in the community of Billingshurst.

Our first supervisor was Sandra Killner and she was the forefront to the playgroup for many years. She and the committees over the years have helped make our playgroup what it is today.

The next supervisor was Violet Davis, well known in the village of Billingshurst through Brownies and Guiding. She was a great asset to our playgroup and helped many children through their learning journeys to school. 

We are now seeing the third generation of some families using our pre-school.
