A typical session

Every two weeks playgroup activities are planned and set up as workshops in the setting.

Free play

Sessions consist of a variety of activities such as sand or water, painting, jigsaws, malleable materials, construction toys, graphics and I.C.T. We have a craft table, a book corner, small world and a role play area, which might take the form of a kitchen, a hospital, a vet or a shop, to name but a few. Some of these activities will be outside for free flow during the session

Large group time

Children sit in a large group for registration and talk about items they have brought for ‘show and tell’. They also learn to sing the S.A.T.P.I.N. rhymes which introduces them to the idea of phonics which is used at infant schools for reading.

Free Flow

The children are free to play inside or out at any time with staff supervision. We go out to play in all weathers.

Snack time

We have a staggered snack time with milk or water and a selection of fruit and vegetables. Children are encouraged to pour their own drinks and choose from a selection of fruit and vegetables. Children will wash up their own cup and bowl.

Outdoor / indoor physical play

The children enjoy outdoor play on our purpose built soft play and the large grass area at the rear of the hall. We have a wide variety of sit 'n rides, as well as a slide, tunnels, parachute, trampets, balls, hoops, sports bag with a variety of outdoor resources and a climbing frame. In very wet weather we have physical games and musical movement inside.

Singing and story time

The children will get together for singing and a story. At the end of the session the children take it in turns to invite the parents into the hall.

Special events

Various events are held throughout the year for example a nativity play and party at Christmas, an Easter lunch and summer sports day and outing. A number of other fund-raising events also take place.
