How staff ensure that the children are challenged and their learning is focused

 

Focus children each week are helped and encouraged to achieve their next steps along the foundation stage. Over each half term all children should have gone through this process, and have been monitored. This does not deter from the other children being encouraged to extend the activities.  

 

 

 How the children’s progress is measured

 

The children make exceptional progress as a result of this way of

working. Post it notes are used to record moments when it is clear

those individuals have learnt a key skill. For example, one child was

observed on a post it note when he had successfully managed to

create an aeroplane out of duplo bricks. He explained how he had

used the bricks to make wings. The practitioner responded to this by

asking lots of questions and a high level of encouragement promoted his learning even further when the child then explained why it had wings and different shaped wings would not be suitable. The level of evidence that has been collected and collated, the learning journey evidence, the ‘assessing pupils’ progress’ levels and official record-keeping systems are bursting with quality evidence for all ages.                                                                                                                                                                

 

How this approach has influenced our early years staff  

 

The pre-school’s inclusive approach has far reaching effects beyond its own community. There has been a noticeable change in our staff. They are lively and enthusiastic and talking about new ideas and new ways of teaching.
